Two students selected for the final round of International Student Mechanism and Robot Design Compet
Two Heriot-Watt students were selected for the final round of the 2015 ASME (America Society of Mechanical Engineers) Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition, which took place at the ASME 2015 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC/CIE 2015) in Boston.
Guochao Bai, a first-year PhD student, reached the sixth place in the Graduate category with his project entitled ‘Transforming Wheel’. Nguyen Hao Le, a final year BEng Robotics & Cybertronics student, reached the fourth place in the undergraduate category with his project entitled ‘3D printed underactuated anthropomorphic hand utilising modular design and flexible compliant joints’.
Both students were supervised by Dr Xianwen Kong, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Guochao and Nguyen had done extremely well to reach the final round of this prestigious intentional competition and the organizer provided them each with $1300 travel fund for them to participate the conference in USA.
