Robot Lab Visited Scottish Company Famous for Prosthetic Hand

Members of Robot Lab at Heriot-Watt University pay a visit to livingston-based touch bionics for technical cooperation.

Dr. Gill, CTO of the company, met us and led us around the R&D workshops of the prosthetic hand. He also showed us the milestone-style products starting from 2005 till now. Short presentations were given by Dr Kong and Dr Bai. After two hours’ communication, both hoped for further contacts and cooperation.

Touch Bionics is a provider of world-leading prosthetic technologies and supporting services designed to ensure the best possible outcomes for people with upper limb deficiencies.

Robot Lab is led by Dr. Xianwen Kong. The meso-gripper project is an open research conducted by Dr. Guochao Bai. The project is trying to overcome the changing-gripper problem in industrial applications which spend a lot of time for idle work. The multi-mode method for grasping solution was proposed firstly to grasp big and tiny objects instantaneously using the same gripper.
